The Felix Project’s Green Scheme is a simple A-to-B collection and delivery service in and around central London. Volunteers collect surplus food from partnered suppliers; supermarkets, cafes, restaurants, delis etc. and deliver it directly to local community organisations. Unique to the Green Scheme, volunteers oversee this entire food rescue journey from start to finish, contributing to tackling both food waste and food insecurity in a single shift.

The operation is called the Green Scheme because it is completely Green! Our collection and delivery methods release no emissions at the point of use, with volunteers completing routes from predetermined locations on foot, by bicycle or using one of our small electric vans.

The Green Scheme services those central London community organisations that would otherwise be difficult to reach with our large depot-based vans. These organisations also tend to be smaller and often don’t have cooking facilities, so the ready-to-eat products typically redistributed through the Green Scheme can be particularly beneficial.

Felix’s Green Scheme depends solely on volunteers for collections and deliveries, so we are always looking for new recruits to join our food rescue community. Get involved today!

What could I do?

When and where can I volunteer?

Our walking/cycling opportunities are our most frequent shifts. Locations include Old Street, Bishopsgate, Marylebone, Canary Wharf and many more.

Our driving routes are slightly less frequent, though they have a greater capacity for picking up larger food volumes, typically collecting from our more fruitful suppliers. Locations include Victoria and Barbican.

Most driving shifts also have a corresponding co-driving opportunity, where volunteers can sign-up to support a driver out on one of these food redistribution routes.

The Green Scheme runs from Monday to Friday, with shifts varying between 1-3 hours in duration, depending on which predetermined route volunteers have signed up to. Though most of these routes take place in the evening, we always aim to have a range of shifts available to suit even the busiest of schedules, with several shifts available in the morning and across the afternoon.

The first step to becoming a Green Scheme is to sign up and attend a mandatory online information session. If you have any difficulties signing up, please contact [email protected]. We're here to help!

Our Info sessions are held online via a Microsoft Teams video call with our Green Scheme Volunteer Lead, and take around 30 minutes. During the session, we’ll contextualise the work being done at Felix and explain where the Green Scheme fits within that, and cover everything you need to know before booking onto your first shift with us.

Following this session, we'll send you an email with your unique session link. If you don't receive this email, please check your spam folder. If the link is missing, contact us at [email protected].

Once a month, a Green Scheme Information Session will take place in the evening to accommodate those who cannot attend during work hours

The next online Information Session is:
Friday 13th February, 12pm - 12:30pm

Register by completing the form below!
Can’t make this session? Check back after 13th February for details of the next session

With a full-on job and social life it’s easy to stay in a little bubble. Volunteering at The Felix Project is a great way to counteract a busy life and provide perspective.
