Felix’s Festive Apple Juice Activity

The Felix Project apple juice is set to help the homeless this Christmas as the charity teams up with Crisis at Christmas.

Felix has donated 324 bottles to Crisis to ensure they have drinks to give to people during their festive activities.

Over Christmas, like The Felix Project, Crisis are incredibly busy. In December and January, they provide intensive support to those experiencing homelessness. They offer a place for people to come and socialise, enjoy entertainment, a hot meal and drinks and be offered vital services like doctors, dentists and opticians.

Last Christmas Crisis helped over 2,600 people in London alone, but to provide these services they rely entirely on support like this. Niamh Coogan is a Project Coordinator and says ““We know Christmas can be a particularly difficult time of year for people facing homelessness. This is compounded by the fact that many other charities close their doors over the festive period, meaning there is limited support out there. Our services are vital and we couldn’t do it without donations like this so we’re delighted to be working with The Felix Project to reduce food waste and create the best, most inviting atmosphere possible in our centres.”

The juice was delivered to the Crisis warehouse in East London and will be used at their services across the city.

The drink was created thanks to The Felix Project’s Farm to Freezer project, which aims to further reduce food waste from farms. Richard Smith, Head of Food Supply, at The Felix Project said: “The juice has been really successful and shows how being innovative with surplus can prevent even more from going to waste. The apples used to make the drink were not quite good enough to be given to our community groups, so we turned them into this drink.  I am delighted that it’s now been given to Crisis and will help add to the charity’s Christmas offering.”
