Maya Jama joins the fight against hunger, as we work together to deliver one million meals for people in need – part of Deliveroo’s new Full Life pledge.
Working in partnership national brands, Deliveroo, Pret-A-Manger, Co-Op and Waitrose will deliver one million meals to The Felix Project, FareShare and The Pret Foundation, so that surplus food reaches those who need it most across the UK.
As the largest food redistribution charity in London, The Felix Project will ensure that meals feed families and vulnerable communities throughout the capital, by delivering food to the over 900 charities, schools, food banks and COVID hubs we support.
Mark Curtin, CEO of the Felix Project says, “The Felix Project has a huge task this year to deliver the equivalent of 38 million meals for Londoners facing hunger in the wake of coronavirus. We are so thankful to Deliveroo, Maya Jama and all the organisations behind this initiative to help us get another step closer to feeding London.”
Presenter Maya Jama, who is fronting the campaign, joined us at our depot in Enfield to sort through fresh food and help deliver it to St. Peter’s Church, currently running a food bank service in Grange Park. Maya was raised by her mum and aunties as her father was not around. Her mother worked multiple jobs to provide for her family and she knows personally how important it is for communities to pull together and the difference it can make.
Maya says: “I’m so fortunate to have a platform and a voice that will be heard, so I want to do what I can to raise awareness about how severe the food poverty crisis is here in the UK.
