To help combat hunger and minimise food waste in the capital, the Hilton Global Foundation has donated enough to provide over 600,000 meals to Hilton’s long-standing partner The Felix Project.
The Felix Project is London’s largest food redistribution charity. It rescues food that cannot be sold and would otherwise go to waste and delivers it to around 1,000 charities and primary schools every week. This vital funding will enable it to continue its efforts to help organisations across London feeding those experiencing hunger. It will also prevent 215 tonnes of quality surplus food from being wasted, equating to 165 tonnes of embedded CO2e.
The charity has four depots across London and all the food is sorted, prepared and delivered by an army of volunteers, something Hilton Global Foundation have also helped with. Over the past week 70 volunteers have donated a total of 337 hours across all sites.
Stephen Cassidy, senior vice president and managing director, UK & Ireland, Hilton was one of them, he said: “The Felix Project is a critical lifeline to many people across London – providing meals to those in need whilst simultaneously taking action against food waste. Our team members have been proudly supporting The Felix Project since 2020 – volunteering their time to ensure access to healthy, nutritious meals for people who would otherwise go hungry. As we continue to fulfil Conrad Hilton’s vision that travel could be a force for good in, we’re delighted to build on this support through the Hilton Global Foundation – empowering this vital organisation in its mission to win the fight against food waste and hunger in London.”
Emma Burns, Corporate Partnerships Manager at The Felix Project said: “We are extremely proud to partner with Hilton and very thankful for the financial support from the Hilton Global Foundation. This donation will enable us to provide over 500,000 meals to the people of London who need it the most. We have a serious issue in London with 1 in 4 working families regularly struggling to put food on their table. Support like this is needed more than ever! The Hilton team are a breath of fresh air to work with and their multi-pronged approach of donating food, funds and staff time to volunteer will have a huge impact on our communities. I cannot wait to see the growth of this partnership in years to come!”
Hilton began its partnership with The Felix Project during the Covid-19 pandemic. Hilton London Metropole, Hilton’s largest hotel outside of the United States, served as a community kitchen that prepared thousands of nutritious meals for those in need including the homeless, the elderly, children who rely on free school meals, and those in isolation. Since then, Hilton has continued to support – preparing more than 40,000 meals to date.
Hilton further deepened its relationship with The Felix Project as part of its Taste of Zero Waste campaign in April 2024, donating a meal to a person in need for every dish purchased from its low waste menus available at participating hotels in London, Brighton and Manchester.
The Hilton Global Foundation aims to make a positive social and environmental difference for communities, ensure a sustainable future for generations to come and supercharge Hilton’s progress towards its 2030 Travel with Purpose goals.
