TV Chef Clodagh McKenna supports The Felix Project

TV chef and author Clodagh McKenna has started supporting The Felix Project and is encouraging people to donate to their winter appeal.

The chef, who regularly appears on ITV’s This Morning went into the Felix Bakes kitchen in West London and made a huge batch of carrot cakes, which were then sent to local community organisations and given to people experiencing hunger.

She also visited the Acton depot where she was shown round and told more about how Felix rescues food and gets it to people in need.

The chef was also given more information about The Felix Project’s winter fundraising appeal which launched a few weeks ago and focuses on the idea that hunger is invisible. During winter we know rising food and heating bills leaves many families, with already squeezed budgets, facing the agonising choice between heating and eating. This year in a survey of 4,000 UK wide working families we found around four out of every ten parents are skipping meals or not buying food for themselves to so their children can eat and 1 in 5 say they do it regularly, that’s over 1.5M families affected.

Clodagh said: “It is so heartbreaking to learn that so many people are really struggling to feed their children – I hate the idea that so many are going hungry. It was also surprising to find out just how many working families are in that group, millions of parents across the UK are skipping meals regularly, I was really quite shocked. I think what The Felix Project does to rescue food that could have gone to waste and get it to families and anyone who is struggling is so admirable. I am delighted to show my support and to have played a role in feeding people and hopefully bringing them some joy with my carrot cake.”
