  • Looking to volunteer as a team with Green Scheme? We have options available for teams to "take over" a Green Scheme route every week for a period of time. Unfortunately we're unable to offer "one-off" group volunteer opportunities with Green Scheme.

  • Or why not join us for a day during harvest season on the farm? Help rescue tonnes of delicious fresh fruit and enjoy a day in the orchards.

Volunteering has enabled me to obtain a good understanding of what happens to unwanted food from wholesalers and retailers in an urban environment. I would like to think that the support that I have given, big or small, has benefited someone somewhere.

Winston Gordon , Volunteer

As I retired recently I started helping out on the Felix Project in West London. A worthy cause that came from a sad event. I love the work and the people are fun and I enjoy spending a morning or afternoon giving something back to the community.

Sean Birch , Volunteer

There is so much food wasted every day when there are people all around us who are hungry. Collecting surplus food donated by supermarkets and delivering it direct to other charities, who then use this food to make meals, is such a simple but brilliant idea.

Tony Stokes , Volunteer

I am a retired person with too much spare time on my hands and this volunteering opportunity gives me something useful to do, as well as the chance to meet new people.

Why volunteer with The Felix Project?

The Felix Project is London's biggest food redistribution charity. We work with businesses to rescue their good quality surplus food - food that would otherwise go to waste - and deliver it free of charge to hundreds of local charities and schools in London to help children and families, the elderly, the homeless, and more.

  • Fight hunger - last year we delivered over 38 million meals to over 1,200 charities and schools in London.
  • Stop food waste and protect the environment - by volunteering with us, not only are you helping to feed Londoners in need but you are also protecting the environment by preventing this precious food from ending up in landfill.
  • Make a huge difference to your local area AND to the whole of London.
  • Join a community of like-minded Londoners feeding people in need & protecting the planet.

1. Attend an Online Information Session

Information Sessions are held online via a Microsoft Teams video call with one member of Felix's Volunteer Team. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Indicator

How old do I need to be to volunteer?

You need to be 16 years or older in order to volunteer with us. However, if you are under 18, you must be accompanied by an adult who will volunteer alongside you.

Indicator

Do I have to be physically fit?

You need to be fairly active to be a Felix volunteer. Warehouse, Green Scheme and van roles involve lifting - sometimes crates of food and boxes can weigh up to 10kg. However, we do have office roles and will work with you to find a role that suits your physical fitness.

Indicator

Do I need a driving licence?

Felix's Volunteer Drivers need a valid UK licence. Felix drivers must be over 21 years old and have been driving for over 1 year, with no more than 6 points on their licence. We also ask drivers to complete a minimum of 1 warehouse shift, 2 co-driving shifts and an assessment before setting out on the road alone. This is so our drivers feel comfortable in our vans and confident with our processes.

Indicator

Can we volunteer as a family or group?

All volunteers must be over 16 and must sign up individually. Once you've completed your training, you may be able to book onto a shift at the same time as your friend or family member. But we have no capacity for official 'group' bookings.
